My Medion laptop which was working perfectly fine yesterday is unresponsive this morning. When I press the power button I get the power light on and the initial fan whizz but nothing else at all. when I attach the charger the battery light comes up as well. It seems to be turning off when I hold the power button but that is really about it. I am panicking and would really aprrecite any help or advice from the techies here. I tried removing and reinstalling the battery which hasn't helped and it doesn't feel like a power supply problem. thanks in advance for anyone who comes to the rescue.
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????

Ok holding down the power supply button down for 6 seconds on Medion Laptops will shut them down so this is perfectly Ok.
The first thing I would do is to boot into the BIOS, F2 on Medions im sure and then have a look at the Drive and see how many KB its reading if 0 the drive has gone kaput.
It maybe a Seagate Momentus drive,I would check though by having a look in the BIOS0 -
Quincy, Many thanks for the advice. I've left it on for few hours on battery (by on I mean only with the power indicator on with nothing else). I then shut down by holding the power button and restarted and it worked!!! I am much more relaxed now but still at a complete loss as to what has happened there. As this has given me some palpitations I will be working on backing up for the next couple of hours.:rotfl:Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0

To have a look at the type of drive and whats in your PC I suggest getting Everest Home Edition that will tell you youre drive make and once you know that go to the manufacturer of the drive's web site and they will have diagnostic tools.0

That is really weird, I did a complete back up, formatted the HD and re-installed windows XP but the problem of the laptop not switching on kept recurring. After some time I discovered that tilting the laptop forwards whish pressing the power button does the trick all the time!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Does anyone know what is going on here?????????Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0

nope, but i once dropped my ibm laptop and it wouldn't switch on. in the end it switched on when the cd drive was open?! and after a while it seems to have gone back to normal.
Oh a dell laptop did have problems switching on, and it ended up being due to dust and fluff affecting the contacts below the switch.0
