BBC, Google not detecting a PDA browser

I used to browse on my PDA typing the normal URLs to sites such as https://www.bbc.co.uk or https://www.google.co.uk and the sites would detect that I am a mobile user and automatically re-directs me to a page that is optimised for a PDA screen, thus making the page more readabe and smaller in size (faster and more economical)

However, recently this stopped and I get the full blown normal pages that take ages to load and requiring me to scroll up/down and right/left! It could be that I fiddled with some settings but cant trace what it is...

Any ideas from the experts here?

Many thanks

Are you happy with that browser, Maybe try Opera mobile to see if that works and if it does then its the default browser thats at fault (setting).

    hmm

cant think of any reason why it would change
have you installed any new programs on your pda that could of changed the settings,

either way, i prefer opera mobile/mini, so give it a try like quincy said

yes, it is strange. The only thing I can think of is that I changed teh access point of my GPRS connection to general.t-mobile.uk dont know if this has anything to do with it.

I will try to locate the opera browser, I hope that I can dowload it directly on teh pda as I am having major problems with active sync, it hangs without completing the sync.. funny as I ALWAYS had probems with active sync, since my very first PDA 4 years ago.. (why can't they make an easier way to sync the PDA?)

The browser in WM 5.0 is/reports as IE4.01 - easiest bet - especially with BBC and Google is to bookmark the PDA flavours directly - easy enough to find with IE on your regular PC and then use the toolbar button to "create mobile favourite"

For the record - here's the PDA versions of those sites that I've got bookmarked in my XDA Exec:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/mobile
    (in detail it's http://www.bbc.co.uk/mobile/pda/index.shtml )
