Scottish Power - Hard sell!!
Today I had a visit from a door saleswoman from Scottish Power, nothing new there then, however, her sales pitch gave me cause for concern, because there are several elderly people in the street that I live and I would hate to think they had been duped into believing her "story".
She said....
"Hi there, I have been sent to check the supply, tariff, consumption and usage of your gas and electricity meters....!!"
Now, as far as I am concerned, that could seriously sound like you may have a problem with your meters, and to perhaps an elderly or vulnerable person, this could pave the way for being duped into signing up to them.
I have actually phoned Scottish Power regarding this matter, and all gave a full description of the persons involved, but I am more concerned that, if they can insinuate there is a problem with my meter, they can have you sign a sheet of paper, which could be "to prove they have checked your meter", when in fact you could have just been duped to signing up to a new supplier.
Just thought i'd give you a heads up with the new tactics.

Almost the same advice applies as I posted yesterday:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=26755697&postcount=2
1. Don't let anyone in who arrives unexpected.
2. Ask for their name and contact their company on a number you know is correct (not one they give you). Any genuine caller will fully understand and will be prepared to wait whilst you confirm their identity.
3. If the supplier cannot vouch for the caller, call 999 immediately and await the old bill
4. If the supplier can vouch for the caller, they should be able to explain their reason for calling. If it is sales, you don't have to answer the callers questions or allow them access. Simply bid them farewell and close the door on them."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
sounds like their normal customer service lies, this used to be a really good company but seem to look if its right0
