Car write-off - what are my options?

Hi all,

Someone ran up the back of me about 8 weeks ago and I would appreciate any advice on my options in this situatuation, as this is my first car and I really don't know what I'm doing!
My car is a T-reg Saxo X 29000 miles (yes, very low!) with no modifications in immaculate condition inside and out. I am insured 3rd party fire and theft with admiral and because of this have been passed through to their legal team, albany assisstance, who have been dealing with the other party's insurers (brit insurance). I got some repair quotes, which I forwarded on, the lowest of which was £482 inc. parts. However, the damage is actually very minor, the car is 100% safe and you actually have to be looking to spot the bent tow bar and slightly dented bumper. I have been advised my car is a write-off, and although I haven't been told what they are going to offer me for it (that is assuming they won't contest liability) or the category (it is expected to be category c) I want to know what my options are. I bought the car for £1000 earlier this year and doubt that I'll be able to buy anything similar for what they give me and am keen to keep the car and get it repaired to it's original state. I know I would not have to buy the car back due to the type of insurance. I
s it possible to demand that they repair it so I am in the same position I was before, regardless of cost? Even if the amount they give me covers the repairs, I will still have to put it throught it's MOT to get it back on the road, and am a little concerned it will fail (it failed it's previous one in may). Can I claim for the costs of the MOT? Also, if it does fail, and it is something very expensive, the money I spent repairing it could have been put towards another car. What does everyone think? My car is completely safe and repairable and I want to get it back to how it was and on the road again but not be left out of pocket, and if I did get rid of it what would be the best course of action to minimise the impact on my severely limited budget?! Also any ideas what it may be worth? Sorry for the essay guys!

All advice welcome!

What you paid and what it is worth are not necessarily the same thing.

Do you know what parker's or glass's guides value it at?

  • No I don't - but got a good idea from the post above - do you have any other advice you could give me regarding the MOT and how tog et a good offer from them? When it comes to getting an actual offer from them I will be sure to check. Thanks

hi sorry for highjacking this thread but i'm new to this and don't know how to start a new thread yet:rolleyes:.
I recently had an accident (there was another car involved)and I think my car is a right off.
I have fully comp insurance, can anyone tell me is there anything I can do if I'm not happy with the offer from my insurance. After speaking to them on the phone they were trying to say they work it out at 2/3 the price of the car minus excess,so I'm thinking the worse I'm afraid.
    any advice welcome
