Have bought a Wii - Now what?

I got the Wii yesterday too - thanks for these links, my OH will be happy.
Now I need some advice on what I also need with this...

Could someone look at this for me and tell me what else I need for 2 players please? I think I need another controller. Should I get remote and a docking station?
I am also looking at mario kart - I think that comes with a steering wheel, so I would need another separate wheel. Is this all correct??
I am also lookingh at F1 which comes out at the end of the month... Would the steering wheels do for this a s well?

What is the motion sensor thingy, and what does a nunchuck do? Do I need another one?

Oh I wish i knew what i was doing - its gonna cost me a fortune...

Helllllpppp!!!

df has mario kart, which he play on his own, but he always plays without the steering wheel, he thinks its easier to just use the remote without the wheel.

we also don't have a docking station but have bought rechargable batteries which i think were about £5 in morrisons (with a charger).

when df got his second remote he bought a game called wii play, which was not a lot more than the price of the controller on its own but came with a free controller (that was a year ago so not sure if its still the same).
  • Firstly to play mario cart you will need a 2nd remote, these can be bought quite cheaply on ebay for around £15-£20 which includes an 2nd nunchuck check out the ones for sale from hong kong, some have free postage. If you were to buy them from say hmv they would charge you around £40 for them both.
Secondly for the steering wheels that the remote goes into for mario cart these can be bought from poundland for £1 each, they also do other accesories for the wii remotes as well, like a baseball bat, tennis raquet etc.
    Hope this helps,good luck.

    Get it chipped.
  • The nunchuck is a add on bit for the controller that you will need for some games, check the back of the box on the games to see whether you need it.

The Wii motion plus is a new peripheral which makes the motion sensing ability of the controller much more accurate. This come's packaged with Wii Sports resort, but as of yet there aren't many games that utilise it. This will probably change in the future.

I would recommend Super Smash bros Brawl, Mario Kart Wii and any of the Pro evolution games for multiplayer. Whilst Wii sports and Wii sports resort are good picks too.
Super Mario Galaxy is the best videogame of the last ten years imo and is a must buy if you want a single player game.
  • Posts like this make me really angry about how the Wii has been marketed. This forum is rife with people who feel that they need to buy loads of extras, when you don't really.

Like with any console, to play 2 player you need a second controller (and probably a nun-chuk).

You don't really need any other accessories, you can play Mario Kart without a wheel it's not essential.

My advice would be to buy a second controller and nun-chuk and leave it at that for the time being.

  • Thanks Dave - keeps things in proportion - you could get really carried away with this.
  • Hi I bought a Wii console bundled with Wii sports earlier in the year(Saisburys) and yesterday ordered Wii fit that comes with the balance board, could anyone tell me if there is anything additional I should get, not the luxuries but the essentials please, I'm assuming I need to get some rechargable batteries, have seen mixed reviews about the USB rechargable pack thingy, so have decided not to get it, do I need to buy another remote/ nunchuck or can I get away with this, I'm going to have a house full on xmas day, 3 kids and daddy(IE another big kid) so don't want them disappointed if they cant play it to its full potential, but also want to budget as much as possible.

  • Normal AAs is what you'll require for the Wii Fit board! Wouldn't bother with a rechargeable pack as such, normal ones would be ok.

Though you'll get bored of it long before the batteries run out (in my grumpy opinion, lol).

If you've only got 1 controller then I'd recommened a second (and nun-chuk)

Am I the only one that fails to see where anyone has stated that you "need" to play the wii wheel for Mario Kart Wii or people suggesting that you "need" to buy any accessories?

I think you may have misinterpreted my (grumpy sounding) post.

I am not having a go at anyone. I am saying that the way the Wii has been marketed leads people to believe that they need to buy lots of accessories. When you don't need to at all. Which is my main beef.
