Cloud 9 Carpet Underlay Cumulus 11mm - Fitting.

Cloud 9 Carpet Underlay Cumulus 11mm - Fitting.

Can this be stapled down to the floor?

We have had it fitted and the fitters used staples to staple it down to the floor.

    Are you questioning the fitters?

We have the Cloud 9 9mm underlay and yes, staples were used, not sure how else it would be done?!?

With 11mm over time there might be waves / dips in the carpet as the underlay is stapled down and therefore compressed at that point?

I could be wrong hence asking here.

If stapling Cloud 9 Cumulus the staples have to be narrow and only staple in non-wear areas (i.e. around the edge of the room). The problem with stapling is it can cause underlay's to "dish", in wear areas the carpet can settle into this depression.

    From Ball and Young.
  • Does anyone recommend some sort of spray adhesive instead of staples? I've been looking to buy Cloud 9 Cumulus from this site and i'd like to fit the underlay myself.
Also does anyone know if Cumulus is OK for the stairs?

    Thanks in advance

A carpet installer I know staples cloud nine as described by Ball and Young and has done hundreds of fittings without issue. I can't see any reason to stick it down or use tape. I would think that staples allow a bit of movement whereas glue/sticky tape may not so much?

He also uses narrow staples in a throw stapler (I think it's called) that looks like this
