I am only interested in whether it's a viable job, not whether there are better policies out there (as I'm not buying ;) )

Do you not see that the two are related??
If they don't have a good product then it's going to be hard to sell it and therefore not a viable job.
That's pretty plain to me anyway.

Come back to us in a few weeks when you have run out of friends and existing customers and the cancellations have started to kick in to flog the policy to and let us know how much you are earning then.

I would be careful dishing out such broad (and untrue) statements like that Wutang. I say this because had I listened to your advice I would have still been in the rut I was in a month ago (just look in the DMP thread) right now, but as it happens I am well and truly on a fast track to paying off all my debt. I hope you understand I am not trying to be rude, but merely pointing out that posting comments like that, with no evidence to qualify your statements is reckless at very least and could prevent anyone else given the opportunity I have been given actually taking it up and changing their lives for the better.

no evidence - I sell insurance but avoid Combined Insurance products because they are rubbish. There are so many better policies out there but clearly you have decided to go for money rather than job satisfaction.

there will be plenty of Combined Insurance policy holders taling up DMPs soon when the policy doesnt pay up/pay for long enough/pays after 3/6 months.

on a slightly seperate note, what is the difference between tautology and a pleonasm?

If any one who actually understands Insurance would like a laugh have a look at the features and benefits of the policy.

    http://www.combinedinsurance.co.uk/media/pdf/ADP.pdf

The partial disability is for one month maximum and the total disability is for 6 months only and are for low amounts. At the prices they charge it would arguably be better to put the premiums in a jar and self insure

The last post for drpellypo sounded like it was one of those testimonial letters you see when looking into advertised self employment work opportunities.

The saying. If it sounds too good to be true............. comes to mind.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

I agree Huckster, I have been in quite a few sales jobs (High and medium pressure), without fail they will always instill in the employee who great the product is and how much money you can make. You often find out after a few weeks that the realities are not quite the same, it's why the turnover of staff is so high.

The combined policy is almost a comedy policy, the only way they can sell it is buy using salesmen probably on commission only or a basic for the first couple of weeks. They would sell precisely zero policies if they tried to sell that policy via an FSA

and they will because any IFA would have no problem getting something better in place.
