CARJET - Child Safety Seats?

Hiya,

I have booked car hire at alicante this year and was planning on taking our own car seat for the baby. This, however, will obviously be quite a cumbersome thing to carry and I'm not too sure about handing it over to the baggage handlers at the airport to wreck! So, I wondered if anyone had hired a car from carjet with a baby seat added on to the booking?

If you have, what sort of condition was the seat in? Was it correctly fitted? etc etc...

Thanks for reading,

Dee

  • Well Carjet just act as an agent so I'm not sure which company they will put you with, but we have hired seats in Spain before with car hire companys and none have been up to my standards, or UK standards, so we always take our own now, quite a pain but I know I will do my best for my daughter in an accident.

Thankyou for you reply. Would you recommend carjet then, or have you another favourite company that you could recommend to me? We are staying at a relative's villa that is somewhat out in the sticks so we really need the car and if it is not of an acceptable standard and we end up without a car our holiday will be ruined!

Also, do you take your own carseat that you use on a daily basis or do you have one that you've bought specifically for holidays? (my worry here is that the baggage handlers will wreck our one which cost a fortune! and so I'm considering buying a slightly cheaper one for the holiday)...

    Thanks again,

    Dee

Carjet are superb, as far as the cars go, we ordered a booster seat and were just told to take one from the pile at the car rental desk, they were all pretty tatty. There were baby seats there too so I imagine the same applies, i.e. take one from the pile, fit it yourself etc. Another time the car rental rep was running from car to car looking for a seat to give us so a bit hit and miss.
Probably best to take your own as you will be familiar with fitting it but book one too, in the unlikely event that the airline lose your one !! We took our own to America, it was checked in with the cases and was fine.

You need to read the reply again. Carjet are only BROKERS. What is important is the car SUPPLIER. There are at least 8 different suppliers at Alicante - Carjet have contracts with most of them. I'm not aware that any are quoted as better than the others for extras like child seats.

But, in general, most of the suppliers are in for high turnover, so it's going to be pot-luck if you find a decent seat. When this question has been asked before, most replies suggest taking your own.

I use Carjet all the time and they have been fine and the cheapest, but as I said they are only a broker and you will be put with a firm at the airport, the only thing that annoys me a bit about them is having to pay for the tank of fuel up front, but I think thats pretty bog standard across them all. We have been placed with Centauro car hire when we go to Alicante in June and they have been fine before.

We have always taken our Britax with us, just check it in first then it is not a problem really.

I tend to use allinclusivecarhire.com. All extras are free. The only catch is you have to buy a full tank of petrol from them when you pick up the car, but you can return it empty.
