For many people the salaries being offered for those jobs just isnt suitable to pay even their basic living costs though!
And so they cant just apply for every single min wage job going, as they physically just wouldnt be able to do those jobs due to the pay not being enough to cover rent/travel to work,
let alone food, bills, and other expenses.
You seem to be forgetting tax credits , which most people on a low wage can claim, as well as the possibility of getting LHA towards the rent.0 -

its swings and roundabouts really.
first off, if your single, tax credits only hit when your 25
whats the point getting LHA support towards the rent - you know as well as I do, the minute someone gets HB or LHA support, what that means is they are working for an extra fiver per week in nearly most cases. (income disregard)0 -

First off, there are more people over 25 than there are under. Secondly, some people value work and independence for their own sakes and the fact that they can progress from a low starting point, something that you can't do on JSA!0 -

Totally! When I was offered the job I start Monday WTC didn't cross my mind, then I realised I might be eligible but wasn't too sure and didn't know whether to bother. It was the lovely lady at the JC who encouraged me to apply. Having been in debt for a number of years, and now debt free, I must admit I am excited about how much I will be earning! And thats on minimum wage!!!
I don't expect the state to give me anything, like I don't expect handouts from friends and family, but I believe in 'the system' and that once things are arranged properly I will never be left destitute - skint maybe, but not destitute.0 -
I too praise the JCP, never had a problem with them and they are really nice to me. I put that down to unlike many people that go to sign on i don't go in there with a bad attitude and an obvious workshy approach.
People who go in there with an attitude of "Wheres me fu*in JSA" deserve to get a blunt reception from staff. Can I just say that most people who magically get a job so fast are people who have a mortgage around their neck - not out of some protestant work ethic. They would snub these types of jobs normally, but in recession steal these jobs from the working class - and would take their council houses too if they only could.
This is just one of the most stupid things i've ever read, im from a Middle Class family, you can't say the middle calss steal job from the working class, everyone has the same rigth to a job regardless of their background, it's just compared to 20-30 years ago the "Working class" of now dont have the same work ethic as they used to. The Working Class used to be just that, hard working people, not anymore. IMHO!11K Challenge

Sorry I meant the lower middle class stealing working class jobs. The middle class (like yourself) educated professionals - dentist, doctors, solicitors dont really steal our jobs, its the semi professionals who, through times like this, are down on their luck and avail themselves of positions traditionally reserved for working class groups. Theres ex retail managers squabbling for shelf stacking jobs. The downward pressure pushes working class into unemployment - for which they get berated for. All to accomodate the needs of lower middle class having to pay their mortgages and cant claim means tested benefits but would if they could.0 -

Nope,
under the current regulations setup under 25year olds aren't entitled to get that,
even though we have to pay the same level of tax as anyone aged 16 or over who in fulltime employment!:(
If they got rid of this ridculous discrimination against people aged under 25 vs people aged over 25, then we would have some incentive to consider lower paying jobs.
Doesn't really matter for you though does it because don't forget you make a nice amount on benefits anyway (going on other posts) and you have no intention of getting a job atm anyway (again going on your other posts).
And don't forget you have a full time job as a trol currently.11K Challenge

*Claiming JSA is the right of every citizen whos unemployed and is looking for suitable employment!
*Many of us are very concerned as we dont want to be put in the same catergory as you (stuckup timid nerds who go to church everyday wasting the entire morning!)
*When under 25s get min wage jobs we wouldnt be able to get any tax credits at all, even though we have to pay the same rate of tax as over 25s!
And while min wage may be a suitable rate for you who lives in a cheap house in cheap area of the country,
for people who live in london the Min 'livable wage' is current at £7.60 (set by tory mayor of london and the GLA).
And so the MINIMUM wage that its been determined that londoners require to live on the same conditions as people in cheaper areas, is 1/3 more than the min wage they would actually get!
So everyone month your pay will be 1/3 short of what you require as minimum to survive, meaning you can only choose 2 out of 3 of housing/food or travel to work.
*And no if you stopped talking in poncy cliches you would see that work isnt 'an obligation'.
Work is a ''luxury''!
If you are fortunate enough to be able to get a job you are lucky as you then have the luxury of earning money doing something that you enjoy in the industry that you are interested in, and getting to spend the day socialising with work colleagues.
Again bootybabe you just go to prove you are a Troll, JSA is NOT a right it's something people are entitled to, is an allowance so people can live, if it was a right then why would the government be trying to get people into work. JSA can be taken away from you if you fail to prove you have been looking for work etc so therefore it isn't a right.
Also you are the last person that should be commenting like your last post, you don't have any intention to get a job, do you think it's ok that i should go to work and pay taxes just so you can do nothing all day i don't think so! You shouldn't be on these forums Bootybabe as they are for people who actually want to work or do better in their lives something you obviously dont want to do you just want to sit around do nothing and go clubbing. You bring a bad name to people of a similiar age to you, im not much older than you (21) and have just got a decent job and have a daughter that i look after, i pay tax and NI you don't so you don't really have a say in anything until you start paying your way imo.11K Challenge

expecting a single person to live from £40 per week and if they work they will get £45 per week - this is wayyyyy lower than other European countries.
No wonder our prisons are full. Government creating "criminals"......if they choose not to accept slave labour....to be told to work in a dirty charity shop to make them respectable citizens....
and lets give the middle class tax credits (free money) but send DSS snoopers onto the guy trying to earn an extra £20 at Chinese takeaway.
I think we should all take a stand - if everyone just decided to take Bootys lead and stay in bed and not go to work - within days we will have won against this tyrannical slave driven regime.0 -

I really hope that is a joke! People are so quick to blame the government for everythign, "and lets give the middle class tax credits" everyone is entitled to tax credits!
People need to start taking responsibility for themselves in this country and stop read the daily mail the oh so patriotic paper that it is NOT! People need to get off the !!!!!! get better qualifications (it's not hard) stop being lazy and stop blaming the government and people who are better off than them for all their problems.11K Challenge
