    American scenario so is it really relevant to the UK? Here you have to pay back the minimum - there's no opt out, and the student loan interest rate is supposed to be the lowest you can get? (don't know whether it is or not).

    I agree though - there are a lot of places demanding the attention of my salary on graduation - mortgage/saving for a house, credit card debt, student loan, pension. The list seems to be endless.
