Eco Hair dryers - false economy ?

Guys,

Unfortunately Electricity pricing is akin to advanced maths so I can't answer my own question here.

My wife and daughter average about 15mins a day use of a our 2000w hair dryer , no longer small beer with the rip off UK energy prices.

Would buying a new eco dryer for say £20 that runs at 1000W but claims to dry at the same rate (so same 15mins usage) save much money over the course of a year or would it take so long to save the money spent it's not worth it ?

My guess would be it'd pay for itself well within a year but I may be well of the mark ?

We use EDF for energy if that matters.

TIA,
Mike.

Let's say both your wife and daughter use the hair dryer three times a week, for 15 minutes each time. Let's also assume your electric costs £0.12/KwH.

    ((0.25*2)*3)*52 = 78KW used each year. 78 * 0.12 = £9.36/year.
Everybody is equal; However some are more equal than others.

How can a hair dryer that runs at half the power, therefore producing half the heat, still dry hair in the same time?
Most of them can be turned down anyway to a lower heat setting.

What a star - usage is probably double ie 6 times a week so saving is a approx a tenner a year...

Hmmm maybe need to look at other areas for energy saving like trimming the electric shower use a bit :D

Good thinking-stop 'em going in the shower and they won't need to dry their hair. Or you could suggest how nice they'd look with a new ultra-short hairstyle...

Efficiency - Doubt they'd get away with the claim without proof through results :-

Any electric space heating or hot water heating, cooker, tumble drier.

If you want to know in detail, just check the power rating shown on each device.
But remember that it's the time it's on, not just the power rating. So an electric shower might burn 9Kw, 3 or 4 times as much as a tumble drier, but it'll only be on for a few minutes a day.
