A&L online saver issue 2 rate reduction advice

Hi there

I have had a good look through many of the threads and found one similar but was wondering if you could please help with what I should do.

My account is going to lose its bonus (0.9%) frm 5.15% just now on 30/06/06 and I have about £12k to save.

I have an ISA and am sorted with that but please help with which account I should go for (other than ICICI).

Why is your bonus rate ending long before anyone elses?
Hmm... I could have sworn the rate lasted longer than that. Best go check my notes...

EDIT: Ah k, I see that accounts opened at diff times have their bonuses ending at diff times. Ignore me.

Why have you ruled out ICICI? Just check out the best savings account at the moment. There is always a list to look at on the MSE site.

Take a look at the post lower down about saving 14k. Has direct link to MSE page and mentions moneysupermarket.com also.

I've had an account with ICICI (5.25%) since the very first day they lauched the account. I've had no problems whatsoever but I gather there are lots of moaning on other threads I am not too sure why.

I also opened an account with Alliance & Leicester last February just in case ICICI follows the path of ING when they've filled their pockets enough.I also get 5.15% with A&L until 31/03/07.

Just phone them to check because I would hate anyone to rely on what I thought I understood from them on the phone, but I phoned and understood them to say that this change will apply to NEW accounts and that not only do the old accounts continue to get 5.15% till March '07, but also new money that you put into such an account will get that too.

I'm in the same position as you student1, so have opened an ICICI Hi-save account in the last couple of weeks. It took 17 days from application to being able to transfer money in/out which was a little slow, but it was entirely hassle free and they do pay the best interest rates. Why do you not want the ICICI account ?

I've also set up 3 small transfers (on differing days) of £1 each from my linked account to ICICI to see just how quick these go through. If they go through without hitch, then I'll be happy to transfer my £25K across, otherwise I'll be asking for the same advice as you ! You could try the same if you're a little wary. Remember, only those who have encountered problems have posted here, there are probably hundreds of thousands who are very happy with the service they've had.
