//sorted, thanks
i've happily banked online with first direct for a couple of yrs.
however, this morning i tried to logon only to get the message "Oops! Incompatible browser".
i was last logged on about 36 hrs ago and it was fine then. i've done no changed at my end.
it seems, from reading the message further, that i now need Internet Explorer (i use Firefox) with ActiveX (my machine is Linux) and that i need to download a small piece of software to do with a digital safe. they specifically state that Apple machines can't connect to the "new" system nor anyone using a Local Area Network, i guess that's me too as i have a router - like most people!
can anyone confirm this ludite change please?
better still, does anyone have an "inside" at First Direct to tell them just how stupid there new system is?

Just logged in with no problems, I'm using Firefox with Windows 7 on my home network.
Why don't you give them a call? That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Sounds as though you are trying to log in to First Direct Internet Banking Plus, rather than the 'normal' Internet Banking - FDIB+ is similar to Egg Money Manager, etc., and does require IE plus you have to download a 'digital safe'.Halifax_sux wrote: »i've happily banked online with first direct for a couple of yrs.

There has been at least one FF update very recently so possibly the FF useragent has changed and the site isn't recognising it if you are using the latest and the other posters aren't.
There is an add on called IE Tab which lets you run IE in a FF tab for those oh so smart banking sites that insist you use the least secure browser in the known universe to access them.0 -
As per my above post - the OP appears to be trying to log in to 'Internet Banking Plus', rather than 'Internet Banking' - the 'incompatible browser' message and the 'digital safe' download are the prime indicators.kwikbreaks wrote: »There has been at least one FF update very recently so possibly the FF useragent has changed and the site isn't recognising it if you are using the latest and the other posters aren't.

seems that i must have clicked the "plus" thing.
Are you one of those people that put everything into Google, then click on the, hopefully correct link?
Or even worse a phishing link.
Perhaps for something as important as banking you should save the correct link to Favourites/Bookmarks.Move along, nothing to see.0 -

I don't bank online, so if you're correct, so be it, besides, where in my post do I say to save the login page.
Still doesn't address those who do everything via the Google search bar, and never use the address bar in the proper manner.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
She has just accidentally clicked on the 'Internet Banking Plus' link instead of the 'Internet Banking' link which are next to each other on the First Direct home page.A problem shared is a problem multiplied.
