Screwfix and Kudox

A few days ago I had a radiator delivered by Screwfix. Ordered it mid-afternoon. Got an email in the evening to say it had been packaged and despatched.

Accordingly, it arrived by courier the following morning - before I got up. Having staggered to the door to open it I'm greeted by a cheerful face asking, "Have I got you up?" A reply of some form was grunted.

Later, unpacking said radiator, I found that an end panel had been damaged. Someone had 'dropped' it - I blame that courier driver, purely on the grounds that he was far too cheerful for that time of day!

A quick phone call to Srewfix. They couldn't supply an end panel but they could send another radiator. Having thought about the logistics of re-packaging the item for return, and it then going back to Screwfix, and then back to the manufacturer, for a two minute job whereupon it would be again re-packaged as stock. All of which seemed somewhat OTT, especially as I would be getting another visit from Mr Overly Cheerful. (Or perhaps it's just me in the mornings?)

Included with the radiator, was a 'packing list' and giving a telephone number regarding any missing items. Unusually (nowadays) it was a National Rate number (had it been an 0870 number then I may not have bothered) so I gave the manufacturer/supplier, Kudox, a ring. The call was answered immediately and the lady I spoke to dealt with my query (no queing for an operative to be available). I explained the situation and she requested the Screwfix catalogue number and my address details, and stated that a replacement end panel would be put in the post 'but to allow fourteen days'.

Assuming it arrives, I'm more than happy to avoid having heavy goods uneccessarily hauled around our congested roads system when an easier option is available AND it meant I could still get on with fitting the item.

And if it doesn't arrive, then I still have the option of Screwfix sending a replacement item whereupon I would simply remove the packaging, tap off an end panel, knock on the damaged one, and send it back.

That'll stop the !!!!!! smiling.

    You and me both !

After nearly 40 years married - the wife has only recently learned that talking to me before 1030hrs is not wise. And the delivery men now just shove a pen in my hand (cap off and pointing the right way) .. and smile.

After 1030hrs - I'm as affable as the next. And can even cope with Screwfix - despite they're not as good as when they were based in Devon.
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !
