I've been using the Fairy power spray recently as it's quite cheap in Asda at the moment. It's £1.50 for the complete bottle and £1.00 for the refill and I find that you need to use very little of so it goes a very long way.

  • I buy 5 litres from Morrisons. I think it's £1.50, so it's not that thin. I then top up my exisiting bottle by the sink and then add 1 expensive bottle to the 5 litres and mix. (Expensive one is normally bought at bogof or 100% extra free).

Works absolutely fine, and we never run out of washing up liquid. Also found the best bottle is the 1L Ecover bottle for refilling purposes. It's well made and you don't have to refill so often.

I use Fairy as I have for the last 40+ years ,I tried the cheaper stuff, but it's not as good as Fairy.
I too buy and stock up when it's on the offer ..I also decant half into another bottle and top up with water so it does seem to last for ages

I use Ecover too, as others have said it is a bit more expensive, but I think its worth it. A lot of the other washing up liquids are cheimical based and it just doesnt make sense to me to wash dirt off with chemicals and then eat from the dishes etc that are caked with chemicals. In my opinion it jsut cant be good for you.

I used stardrops the other day as i was cleaning the kitchen & spilt some in the bowl lol. thought i might aswell try it & its really nice so i think i might stick to that in future. We tend to buy whatever is on offer normally though, think its persil we have under the sink & fairy in use at the moment.
I wouldnt buy any cheap brands, the stores own are ok though. Cheap 1s are far too watery.

Another Fairy fan here (also buy it when its on 3 for £2 at Asda) and I have to say that a bottle lasts me ages. I guess you could say that I don't wash up as often as I should:p , although I prefer to think that I am just frugal with it...;) I find that a very small squirt makes loads of bubbles, and "careful" ordering of washing up (i.e. glasses first followed by plates/dishes, which I rinse beforehand if they are very gunky, before moving onto glass cookware, i.e. Pyrex, and finally saucepans and greasy stuff) means that I rarely have to change the water when washing up after your average meal:D . However, I do find that when my parents/parents-in-law come to stay I get through a lot more Fairy because in an effort to be helpful and wash up, they squirt half a bottle into the sink each time!!!

Currently have the best part of a bottle of Ecover under the sink, because we went on a canal holiday last week and, mindful of the fact that washing up water goes directly out of the boat into the canal, I did my research :A and bought an environmentally/baby duck friendly version. Was appalled to discover when we arrived that we were only "allowed" to use what was provided for us by the boat company ("Happy Shopper" Economy Basic Value, no less!! ), so stuck to it for 24 hrs - I'm a stickler for rules! - before changing to the Ecover version (apart from the environmental damage, the Happy Shopper stuff stripped all the moisture out of your skin and left your hands like sandpaper!! ). However, having not bought it before and therefore not being sure of how much we would get through, I bought the largest Ecover I could find (canals are not renowned for running close to supermarkets and I didn't want to run out halfway through!), but I was delighted to find that a little went a long way, and the smell/kindness-to-hands factor was also great. Will have no problem using up the leftovers and depending on the financial situation going forwards when it comes time to re-stock the cupboard, I would consider using it again...:undecided

OH always used Fairy, said the cheaper ones were so weak the extra you used made them as dear as Fairy. However, she now uses Lidl's W5 brand - reckons it is nearly as strong as Fairy and is MUCH cheaper.
