I watched it TM, something like that makes you think, I am almost supermarket free for fresh stuff like veg, meat, fish and eggs but I will read the labels in the supermarket before I buy anything exotic looking.;)

Same here - when I was buying my meat the other day, he had a notice up saying where the animals were from - all from lancashire :D

I need to buy more local fruit and veg I suppose - but what annoys me is that I can buy lancashire lettuces - but they've been sent to Warwickshore to be wrapped :(

I went to my local Tescos last Tuesday, and I was in a hurry as I had visitors coming ,I only needed a few bits it came to about a fiver.
Normally I check things but didn't have the time until I got home.I suddenly realised that the two loose carrots that I had picked up for the lamb casserole had cost me 48p. The reason being that they were 'organic' ones. When I was in the shop on Thursday I queried this and found that the 'Tesco Metro' locally was only going to stock 'organic' loose carrots, and if you wanted 'ordinary' ones you would have to buy a wrapped bagful. Not practical for me as I only needed a couple at the time.
I wonder how many more people had been fooled by the box of loose carrots and bought some not realising they were the more expensive 'organic' ones.
I'm not saying they weren't nice, but 48p for two carrots to go into a casserole I thought was a bit steep.I mean a carrot, is a carrot, is a carrot, when it's mixed up with the other veggies in the slow cooker.

Memo to self: Look before you buy and make more time or get scammed by Mr T:o

    McDonald is so right!

I've found buying seasonally not only helps me budget but prevents me getting into a recipe rut as i have to alter my recipes to suit the seasonal ingredients. One of the worst bits of being skint can be boredom & the depression sometimes so it's nice to have a push to eat different stuff. :D Otherwise it's so easy when you are busy and skint to stick to the same ol' meals till you are really sick of them :rotfl: (Or I may be just naturally boring I dunno)

It's also far more ol' skool than strawberries in december and ensures you are eating stuff that is at it's peak nutritional value, even if it's not organic.

I am always stung on the price of veg etc. My problem is when I sit at home and mealplan I include all veg and fruit that we enjoy for the week ahead but I don't actually know what is in season and not. So when it comes to doing the shoppng I religiously stick to my list (not being tempted by other things) but end up paying through the nose!

Does anybody have a link to a foolsguide to what's in season please?
