I've had dodgy packs of chicken breasts from Morrisons before. Open the pack and they smell like blocked drains *shudder* Never had trouble getting a replacement, but it is a pain when you've just gone to cook something for dinner!0

I have had this with tesco on several occassions - I had finest sausages that went green (literally with mould) three days before the sell by date. Milk always seems to go off quickly from there - and as you said customer services dont seem bothered! Just refund your money, not even a double refund :eek:Free/impartial debt advice: Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) | National Debtline | Find your local CAB0

On Saturday i bought a pork shoulder joint (vacuum Packed) from the chiller cabinet dated display till 17 Nov 09 and use by 18 Nov 09. I opened it today (10 Nov) and the smell from it nearly knocked me off my feet! I rang Tesco and the customer services didn't seem too bothered and just advised me to freeze it and take it back. I guess i am entitled to my money refunded but my dinner was ruined and i have now got the hassle of returning it and i feel really miffed by the whole thing. As anyone else been in this situation with Tesco?0

Pork shoulder joints that are vacuum packed always smell "off" when first opened. The smell lessens after it has been exposed to the air for several minutes.
This is taken from a website which explains it a bit more.
Opening up vacuum packs
When you take meat out of a vacuum pack, you’ll often notice a surprising smell. Don’t worry, there’s nothing wrong with your meat, and as the oxygen returns to the meat it’ll disappear completely. In the same way, the colour of your meat will bloom. Beef and lamb will go a nice rosy red, while pork will turn a deep pink and veal a lighter pink.
To let all this happen and to make sure your meat is at its best, take it out of the vacuum pack at least an hour before you want to cook it.0 -
I recently opened a pack of Sainsbury's mince the day before it's 'use by' date, and it smelt horrible - not really stinky but definitely not right.
I rang the online ordering customer services (it was from a weekly shop I had delivered) and explained - the chap apologised pofusely and arranged for a replacement pack of mince to be delivered that eveningThe delivery driver turned up with my single pack of mince in time for me to cook dinner as planned. Excellent result Sainsburys!
