tv and headphones

we took delivery of a new tv today. my husband has a hearing problem and often listens to tv with headphones. the new tv cuts to mute when he attatches his headphones so noone else can hear.
how can we connect other than through the headphone jack...someone has suggested an amplifier....any suggestions?

    If you have a hi-fi/amp, you may be able to plug the phono-outs from the TV into it, and then he can listen through the amp/headphones, and you can listen through the TV speakers.

    A surround sound model might be a good investment to match your flashy TV, but you'll need space for lots of speakers to make the most of it.

    Alternatively there may be a setting on the TV, to not mute the sound when headphones are plugged in, but you'll have to read the manual to see..

    with mine i can, it has headphone volume in the sound menu if i turn it up full plug my headphones in i can her through them aswell as the tv volume with the normal controls

    no...been through the manual..no way to over ride it...have ordered an amplifier thingy which connects to one of the scart sockets so hopefully we can all watch tv together.
