Don't panic! Your assessment won't be anything like £100 per week! It would go UP under CS2 - so don't do anything rash - I have seen the figures!

Has anyone got access to the old rules formula? I'd love to see it if they wouldn't mind posting it. Been told we'll be quite low but trouble is it was very high when our income was a lot lower than now. It would be helpful having some kind of idea before I send everything off seeing exactly how they get their figures. I don't understand how they decide what the 1st family needs and then how they decide what the 2nd family needs and arrive at a figure available for assessment!

I'm confused, hasn't Kelloggs already looked at your figures for you for the calculation on CS1?

If not she would be the one to speak to if she is available. Perhaps PM her?
    August GC 10th - 10th : £200 / £70.61
    NSD : 2/8
  • Yes she did, I'm just absolutely flummoxed as to why we were paying so much before, thought it would benefit us if I went through the lot while I have some time and in order to be prepared! If there were mistakes last time, now would be an ideal time to flag them up seeing as I've got to send a load of stuff off to them this week anyhow.

    Net income £290 per week.

Personal allowance = £64.30 per week.
Housing costs = £95 per week
Child allowances at 50% (as partner has enough income to contribute towards your joint children) = £87
    Family premium @ 50% = £8.65

Take the allowances from your net income = £35.05. Halve this as your contribution = £17.53.

The maintenance needed is based on income support rates for the children and their ages - without doing it all, it is much more than your contribution so it isn't even worth doing!!!!!

Protected income includes your net income, partner net income, child benefit, tax credits and then taking away allowances - which will in your case, mean that you are left with more than the protected income if you were to pay the £17.53 so your assessment is the full amount.
  • Do the housing costs not get halved too? I was under the impression that because I now have an income, That these were split?
  • Thanks Kelloggs, just re-read the PM's you sent me last week and you'd already answered my last question, think I was that stressed out I had failed to take it all in. Am realising that although our income was much lower last time, so were our housing costs, hence the mighty payments. Not sure whether PRC has put this in action or whether its just a routine review, so taking on board what you've said, we're probably best sitting tight and not changing anything until the figures come back to us.
