Totally lost!!!- reclaiming money from paypal

:confused:We purchased a Smeg fridge freezer from a company, rangmasteruk.co through ebay. We paid on Paypal. Today it was meant to be delivered, but it wasn.t, when we tried sending an email to the company, we received one from ebay saying that the company is being 'looked into...'And we should be careful. So we checked ebay and and the company had been removed. we were very anxious, so contacted our credit card company and explained so they are looking into it, then on further investigations we found out that the company are in receivership! so we rang paypal, and placed a complaint and dispute, obviously we are now worried about being over a £1000 out of pocket. Can anyone advise us if we are covered under section 75 for our credit card company, or are we on our own to try and get the money back...please help someone .

  • If you paid by paypal, you will not be covered under S.75 with your credit card.

PayPal MAY refund you, but I've heard so many bad stories on this I don't hold their "totally safe" pledge in any higher regard than I do the Prime Minister.

Probably not what you wanted to hear :(

Tell your cc you want to do a chargeback [not a section 75 claim, but a chargeback]. They will try not to do this and say you must exhaust the payapl procedure first. INSIST upon a chargeback; threaten them with the banking ombudsman, FSA, etc. There's a 120 days limit on chargebacks, so be careful if you agree to finish the pp process first !!!!!!!!!

S75 protection in theory is lost when you use ppal...be warned!!! Some cards will allow it and some won't.

Ppal are generally pretty sh17 with helping you get your money back.

    Good luck.
  • As you bought it via ebay you will be able to open an 'item not received' case via paypal. You should be covered by ebays buyer protection & get your money back.
  • I recently had an item not received claim with paypal. I made the claim and was informed that Paypal can only recover the money if the vendor has sufficient funds that they have access to. I did get my money back
