Hi,
Our boilers packed up and been told by the BG engineer we are going to need a new one which is out of the question at the moment so looking at a couple of electric heaters to heat the main rooms in the house.
Have come across this one with a thermostat, which has 20 % off at the mo:

Is it OK or are oil filled better ?
Thx

It won't be much good at heating your bath water.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

The waters got an immersion heater which we're using very sparingly. It's heating the house for the kids I'm concerned about.0 -

please post make and model of boiler and reason why BG say it needs replacing. BG very good at writing off boilers that are repairable.0 -
OIl filled will retain heat once it's been switched off. How long do you intend to be without a boiler?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

Probably throughout the winter I would think.0 -
Do as capita guy says.

It's quite normal for BG engineers to tell you that a new boiler is needed, as they are on commission.
Get a real independent heating engineer to have a look at it for an honest opinion. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

Halstead best 60. We had no cover so signed up to the BG deal to fix it £90.00 odd up front and a monthly fee for future cover.
The guy came out last Fri and it needed a new fan (one of the wires had snapped off) and also either the aquastat or pcb ignition.
They were supposed to come yesterday but couldn't get the fan until today, anyhow when he turned up the fan was wrong and he said they would have probs getting one because the boiler is an old model.
He replaced the other 2 bits and did some tests and said that even if he had the fan it still wouldn't work.
He said the cover didn't apply to so many faults and it would be cheaper to get a new boiler. He cancelled the policy.0 -

We did and to be fair he looked and said it seemed to be more cost effective to get a new one than repair it. He suggested BG because they are supposed to have this fixed price repair deal.0 -
So 2 kw oil filled with thermostat the best choice ?0
