Stonemasters dispute

I recently made the mistake of ordering a composite kitchen worktop from this company.
Unfortunately I was not at home at the time of the fitting which they made a complete hash of as well as omitting to supply and fit an upstand. They are now refusing to come and correct their poor work and threatening to take me to court for the remaining 50% of the quotation value (I had already paid a 50% deposit on credit card).
Can anyone give me advice as to my best course of action? I would ideally like the worktop to be refitted correctly (which they are refusing to do) or alternatively for them to take the worktop away, cancel the transaction and refund my deposit (which they are also refusing to do). Has anyone else had issues with this company?
Any help would be really welcome.

Let them take you to court, they won't win if you're telling the truth.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

You need to write to them stating you are not refusing to pay, you simply want the work completing to a reasonable standard.
As you have paid by credit card you have the consumer credit guarantee. You can request the card company put the work right if the original company refuse to do so (they are jointly liable)
You need to put things in writing, giving realistic timescales for them to respond within.
As stated earlier contact trading standards or consumer directbaldly going on...0 -
Thanks for all the advice which is really helpful. Stonemasters are still refusing point blank to put right the issues I have raised and meanwhile I have an unusable kitchen. Would I prejudice my case in any way if I ask another supplier to attempt to correct the problems or do I need to leave the worktop in exactly the same state in which it was installed? I have taken photos etc. as proof of original poor workmanship.

Take photos and obtain an independent report on the condition of the installation and the costs to rectify.
I would also contact the manufacturer of the product itself for their opinion on the installation.
Once you've done this I would pre-empt Stonemasters actions by issuing against them first using Money Claim on line.0 -
I am a director of Stone Masters with the website stonemasters dot com and have just seen this post. I have been searching through our archives for jobs for a client names Sarah towards the end of 2009 but I cannot find any. I know there is another Stone Masters in the north of the country and Sarah1997 could be referring to them. I would like to ask Sarah1997 to contact me and update this post as we certainly did not have a dispute of this sort that i can recall at the time.
We are a long established and reputable fabricator for composite stone with a successful retail business as well as a strong commercial arm with a portfolio of very high profile jobs. Naturally, when we see a post like this, we are very concerned about our public perception. We have done hundreds of private home worktops in composite stone and have a huge list of references should anybody be concerned having seen this post.0 -

Interesting that 18 months after the event, you decide to get involved.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0
