Cracked bath

Hi

I know this has been discussed before but I could not find a definitive answer. We have just installed a new acrylic bath and notice it has a crack in it. Buying a new bath would be expensive and a hassle so we have been trying to decide whether buying a kit to mend it works. Has anyone tried one?

Thanks for your help.

  • Depends where the crack is, i bought a kit from b&q for £24.99 to repair a crack in the side of the bath which was ok, but i don't think i would use it for a crack in the bottom of the bath.

We used a company called hometech uk ltd to repair our cracked shower. They will give you a quote on the cost.

Damage to sanitary appliances is normally covered on your Buildings Insurance. The insurance company will initially send someone out to see if it is repairable and if that is not possible, will pay for a new one including installation, removal of the old one, associated tiling, plumbing costs etc. Worth giving them a call.

  • daisefar, this happened to us recently

after all the installation, the bath had a small crack by the plughole.

but we phoned the company we bought the suite from and they replaced the item, but did not want to pay for any fitting costs.

i now have a lovely big and uncracked bath! :T

if you want to repair it yourself - try princess pinflair glue gel - it sticks anything to anything permanently (available on create and craft website) am told its holding together shower screens and i have used it myself on my craft projects - and believe me - once its stuck its stuck! it may be available in hobby or craft shops - but personally i get it from create and craft.
  • Thanks for all your suggestions. I think I will try a repair solution first!

  • Cracked bath update - I contacted Ronseal about their bath repair kit and they said that if a crack had gone right through to the bottom of the bath then we would need to get a new bath - it is only suitable for a hairline crack. Several people have also confirmed that glueing is not suitable as over time an acrylic bath will move. So, have decided we need a new bath after all.
