Toshiba TV/Comet problem

Has anyone had a similar problem and are able to help?
We have a 37" Toshiba tv which developed a fault when it was 10 months old. When switching the TV on you get sound and a blank screen and then have to switch off and back on again to get it to come on properly. Sometimes you need to do this a dozen times before you get picture as well, sometimes it will not do it for days and then decide to play up again.
It was bought from Comet so we contacted them and they sent out an engineer who did something to it and went away again, but the next day it continued with the same fault. The next engineer muttered something about it being a known fault with these and had the attitude that we would just have to put up with it. We didn't. The third visit had the repair man ordering a new part for it, which when fitted made no difference as it continued with its old tricks a few days later. Yet another engineer out today who pointed out it was now out of guarantee and did we have an extended warranty? My husband told him that it was the same problem that was reported when it was still under guarantee, so he then said he would have to take the TV away for tests and that they would not leave us with a replacement in the meantime.
We have brought in our old TV from the spare room so we are not without, but it could be a couple of weeks before they bring the other one back.
We are not happy with the 'service' we are getting from Comet, does anyone know if there is anything we can do?

I had a problem with Comet once and I wrote to the MD. Sorted. But, it sounds like they are trying to fix your problem, so I think you'll need to just wait and see.
Incidentally, I have a Sanyo flat-screen TV which occasionally does the same thing. I don't know why it's OK for most of the time but just occasionally plays up, my best guess is that it's hypersensitive to fluctuations in the mains supply.Je suis Charlie.0
