how to transfer info from one computer to another

hi- is it possible to transfer all of your programmes and files to another computer? my current computer is old and slow- i have been given a newer one but how would i get all my files etc onto the new one? i havent even got my original micorsoft office disc as i lent it to my brother- would i be able to transfer this too? my current slow computer doesnt re-write onto cd or anything. is there a cable or something that can hook the two computers up together to transfer info or am i wishing the impossible?

you have to slave the hard drive from your old comp to your new one.

You would have to network them to transfer anything. Probably the cheapest way to do this if you don't have a wireless system is to buy an ethernet cable. Once you have them networked together you can then transfer all your files and programmes to your new system. Not sure about the Microsoft Office though, it would depend if you need the disc to reinstall it which I think you probably would.
