Oh my god, forget I said anything. I just wanted a little rant. I did not used to have to pay for parking but the station manager will not spare 4 spaces in his car park for us to use after building work ripped up our staff car park. I cannot get a bus as I work at 5am if mornings and to half 11 if evenings. I already have an overdraft and a credit card, the bills of which are run up by the parking charges I never expected to pay. In the past we have been paid at least a week early meaning we can buy christmas presents, which I now can't afford. I work for SSP in a train station. Seriously, forget I bothered to be upset.

you looked at your outgoings to see if theres anything you can cut down on, could you not get a lift or pick a colleague up and split the car park fees, surely theres soemthing you can cut back on

Buy your presents with November's wages, there's nothing left in the shops the week before Christmas
It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical

I live very out the way, almost all others live in the city. I appreciate those who have tried to help, I know it's nobody's fault, and I really can't cut back anymore than I have, but I'll manage, I always do. I'm going off now to look at the 0% credit cards to swap my balance over possibly...wish me luck!

  • if you used to park for free i would try and renegotiate this, as potentially it was 'custom and practice'. do you pay for an annual parking pass to make it cheaper, or perhaps you can negotiate to pay the annual discounted amount monthly? i take it there is nowhere near to park free or that you can a colleague could park a little way away and share the cost of one pass?

do you actually work 0500 - 2300 or just shifts between these hours? do you get any staff discount or 'leftovers'?

i can understand your frustration at these changes, but times have changed in the working world over the past year x
  • When I worked at manchester airport SSP were the people who had the concessions for the cafes and restaurants. It would appear that they treat their staff in the same way as their food customers - badly!!!!!

Lots of people pay to park, I pay to park at the College I work at and I am still not guaranteed a parking space, often if I arrive at work only 45 mins before I start work I cannot get a space, and have to take my car to a side street approx 15 mins walk from the College. To be sure of a space I need to be at work an hour before I start teaching. My DH has not had a pay rise this year, that is how the economy is, we all need to budget, and you need to do the same.
