Barclaycard premier and platinum

Hi guys!

I have a credit card with barclays. It's a premier credit card with a limit of £7000 and APR 13.6%. I have always paid my balance in full or at least half for the last 6 months which is usually £2000 ~ 4000k. My balance now is £3k and I intend to repay in full in 4 months due shopping for xmas and so on...

I am eligible to get the barclays platinum simplicity at APR 6.8%.

Does anyone know if I can change my barclaycard to platinum one or ask them to reduce my APR from 13.6% to 6.8%?

Is it worth a call?

Thanks in advance

I sincerely doubt it. Although you may have a fantastic credit status, given your being approved for a Simplicity card, Barclaycard won't let you transfer a balance between their own cards.

However, they may reduce your APR on the Premier card if you clear the balance and ask them to close the account. They did this with me the first time I was a Barclaycard customer before I messed up my credit totally, I had a Barclaycard Initial with a 9.9% APR(!).

Whether or not they will agree to reduce the APR before you've cleared the balance is debatable, but I suppose it couldn't hurt to call your Premier Manager :o

Good luck, and keep us posted ;)

  • Oh I see. They said it's fine for me to apply for the platinum and I did but to be honest I regret it. I didn't make sense to me to keep two visa barclaycard. Will try to cancel this application and apply for other credit card.

    Thanks buddy!

Yes, I think it's risky to rely on an assurance over the telephone of a deal from the same lender.

    Barclaycard
, in particular, practices a rate-for-risk policy, There's no guarantee you'd get the card or the credit limit hoped for. It's almost always better to apply to a competitor, rather than the same lender, IMO.

P.S. According to the Barclaycard website, the credit cards currently available to existing customers are B'card Breathe and OnePulse

Yeah. It's weird though because when I called barclaycard customer service they don't deal with premier credit card. I had to call to another number and they said I couldn't exchange it for a platinum credit card and advised me to apply for it on a different number. I got accepted but it doesn't make sense to keep two visa, does it? As I can't make balance transfer through barclaycard.

I will call them tomorrow asking to cancel.

Unfortunately I have done so many credit card application in the last 6 months ( I didn't know it affects my credit rating ) as I am foreigner I even didn't know about credit rating haha, however, I am aware of it now.

I think the only company I can get good credit it's barclays as they have an internal score of me.

I got accepted this month for capital one plus mastercard but haven't received it yet and I think their limit it's only £100 ;/.

Well I will stay one year without applying for any credit card to see if can improve my credit rating.

    Thanks guys

    Hi guys!

Weird... I just received today my barclaycard platinum with a interest rate of 6.8%.

What they did? They reduced my credit limit from barclaycard premier and transferred it to platinum simplicity.
As I have a limit of £7000 the operation told me I can choose how much I want to transfer to platinum simplicity.

I decided to transfer £1500 as I haven't paid it in full yet.

It doesn't make sense, does it? Before to apply I asked them if instead apply for this credit card they could reduce my interest rate. They said it wouldn't be possible, however, at any time I can transfer the whole limit I have with the premier to simplicity.

Well when I pay off my balance I will transfer the whole limit .

    Weird weird weird...
