Oh dear, can you not go on Income Support or Job Seekers? If you have children you can get Income Support, or you could just say the only reason you can't get a job is because you can't fine one, although you'd have to show willing and attend interviews on JSA!0

If you are on Incapacity Benefit you cannot choose to go on Income support.0 -
Hi unitedjmd
I'm not sure if the type of mortgage affects this, but I would suggest applying for Income Support now, because after some time (possibly 9 months, although all my paperwork is elsewhere to check) of claiming IS some of the interest on the mortgage payments may be added on to her needs, and she should get top-ups for them. No help is available with paying the capital part of a mortgage or any other payments, for example, endowment premiums, and there are restrictions on the amount of interest which can be paid.
If she isn't eligible for any IS WITHOUT that interest on top, then she will get nothing for the amount of time you have to wait, and after then should start getting IS automatically for them. In practice, you will probably have to phone people and remind them.
So, in short, apply now, as you have to wait loads of time for it to kick in anyway.
The rules about mortgage interest and IS are also really complicated, so I would have suggested the CAB but I see you already said they were lubbish. Age Concern may do benefits help also, in some areas.

Thanks for the replies.
I'll have to double check with my girlfriend but there are certain benefits that she has applied for before but has been told that because my girlfriend lives with her that too much money is coming into the house for her to receive it. Could this be the case?

is ther NO type of work she can do? i believe if she works a few hrs a week (dont know the limti) she might get what they call "theraputic earnings" so will not effect her benefits. not only will she be earning and have benefits but it may lead to more long term employment.fatblokexl:EasterBun:0

It is unlikely she will be entitled to Income Support or Pension Credit with that income, but I'm not sure so worth checking.
Mortgage interest payments are paid if you are on Income Support or Income based Jobseekers Allowance.
Income Support & Mortgage Interest Payments
Has she checked that she is getting all the reduction she could on Council Tax? (Probably not entitled to Council Tax Benefit, but what about single person discount, has she got anyone else living there?).Torgwen.....................

I'll double check about the council tax discounts - thanks.
