I wouldn't chance it. The chilli flavour will mask any 'going off' smell.
Mortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot.
  • I'd eat it too - if it has lots of chilli in that helps stop any nasties growing too.

  • Thanks all for your thoughts :) after considering it for most of the day and reading the replies here, I decided against eating the chilli (I was never going to give it to the kids, though was considering it for partner and I), as I figured that no matter now hot and for however long that I reheat it, I would not be able to enjoy it, as with each mouthful I would be wondering if I was going to make myself ill, so sadly it has been binned, and I hope to never repeat that mistake again.
Katycocoa, how was your partner after the eight day old stew?

I would never chance it with any dish made from chicken or pork, but I have eaten lamb and beef curry from the fridge after one week, and it has been amazing, and I have suffered no ill effects (there is always a first time though).
The spices should help, along with the low fridge temperature, and I would also stress that I only ever use fresh and not frozen meat in all of my cooking.
I would heat it thoroughly on a hob for fifteen to twenty minutes, stirring it regularly.

  • Upyonder, he was absolutely fine. He wouldn't have eaten it if he's known how long it had been there but it didn't harm him. I think I would have done the same as you with the chilli though.
  • Hi

I would eat it, I make chilli a lot lasts us about a week and never makes it into the freezer because then I forget to defrost it LOL

In short we have always been fine, and it tastes the same :) all I would say is to make sure its scorching hot.
