Bulk cooking problem.

Ive just gone in to the fridge to get out the portioned up pumkin soup that I made yesterday to put in the freezer, only when I was in there, I discovered 2 family sized (2 adults 3 kids) portions of chilli that I had bulk cooked last week (dated 3/11/09, it is now 1 week old) it is in old margarine tubs, which is why I missed it. I opened one, it smelt fine, and there was nothing obviously growing on it, but am I right in thinking that it is likely to be unfit for eating now at a week old?
I cant beleive I forgot about them, 2 whole family meals (minus the rice) probably gone to waste

It al depends on how cold your fridge is and on your own immune system. If cold enough and you reheat really well you should be fine. I'd eat it from my current fridge but not if it came our of my old one.NSD 0/150

others will probably disageee, but i'd probably kick myself for forgetting it and throw it away.. in the grand scheme of things it isnt the end of the world.
if i risked it at all i would use as much as i could today, boil it to death and only give it to adults, not to the kids and i wouldnt freeze it as i might forget it was already slightly dodgy when i defrosted it, plus its adding extra time and processes onto it.0 -
Well, I batch cook Bolognese sauce, Chilli con Carne, curries, soups etc. and, as I am single, regularly keep them in the freezer for a lot longer than a week.
I keep a record of what's in there, and I might start noting dates, out of interest. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -

This has been in the fridge, not the freezer, though

As long as your fridge temperature is below 5 degrees and you re-heat it thoroughly, so it's piping hot, it'll be fine.0

I once forgot about some stew that had been shoved to the back of the fridge. 8 days later my partner called me when I was at work to say he'd found dinner I'd left him and it was lovely, thanks!0

Personally I wouldn't risk it (but you will never do that again!) How very annoying.
Stephen I put amusing notes on food to myself which always make me chuckle. I don't know how ok it is to find yourself funny though......A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

Personally I wouldn't want to take the chance but if you decide you want to chance it i would heat it to an exceptionally high temperature to minimise the risk0

I misread the title, thought it said Bull cooking!
Ooops.
But if it was me, i'd sniff it, cook it well, sniff it again and try it.
If it looks fine, smells fine and tastes fine, my guess its fine.
Maybe not for the kids though, just in case.2 angels in heaven :A0
