Where there is a Will is there a way

Options
to not be charged again?About 3 years ago I purchased a WILL from Legacy and Law.I have just received a letter from them saying that 'all wills should now be page numbered and signed by the Testator and Witnesses on each and every page',and to do this I need to send £60[which is what I originally paid anyway..Is this an ombudsman case? or what other options have I?

Might be the rules now, but surely you go on whatever the legalities were at the time it was drawn up? Sounds to me ( as an uninformed layperson!) that they're taking the p!ss.
I'd get in touch with citizens advice as a starting point, to see if what Legacy and Law are saying is actually true. Do you hold the will yourself, or are they holding it for you?

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

I was thinking more along the lines of showing it to CAB or a solicitor on one of their free half hour consultations and getting a second opinion before sending any more cash.
I always thought a will was valid until you revoked it or physically destroyed it. I really wouldn't take Legacy and Law's word for it without doublechecking with someone who knows what they are talking about.

Probably a good idea to post this on the Silver Savers (over 50s) Money Saving forum.

There many experts on wills there.

  • There is a letter floating around along such lines. It starts off 'Dear client'.

If you look closely, you might find that the letter isn't actually from the people that you have written your Will with.

    This is a known scam.

    Ignore it.

It is certainly best practice to number every page and have the testator and witnesses sign every page - it stops pages being replaced!! But its not a requirement to make the Will valid.

The Probate Registry are aware of the letter and I understand that they are taking action against the originator.
