I've no idea whether Stop-Start is "top end" or not but I've been using it for seven years and found it excellent. It covers all of the sound file options, and there are loads, and you can download updates from their website.

TBH £120 + VAT may sound a lot but if you're serious and have good ability you'll make the money back in no time.

Check out post No. 2 - as explained I gained most work via Yellow Pages and also sent out 500+ letters to small local businesses which secured some work (estate agents, surveyors - anyone really who may be in need of an extra pair of hands but not have enough work to employ somebody).

I just pop in now and then.... :)

  • Thanks for your post BridieJ,

What great advice. I feel excited about starting this type of freelance work. Totally agree, what is £120+VAT for the equipment if you are surely to make this back in no time?!

Does anybody know of any cheap sites where equipment like this can be purchased from at reasonable prices/are trustworthy!!

    Thanks again to all MON05

I bought mine via a company called Data Supplies & Accessories - dont know if they're still around as this was back in 2004 (and it cost me £200!). If you do order it keep the receipt as you need it to get the updates (hence I know who I bought it off as I keep it in my diary!)

Have replied to your PM, meant to add that yes, it does seem like a lot of money, I know when I started up I was a bit scared to spend that amount but for me it has been well worth the investment!

I just pop in now and then.... :)

  • I'm glad this thread is on here because it was something i have considered too. i've received information from one 'company' that i found on a jobs website where you fill out forms and applications and earn £10 for each one. It said it wasn't a get rich quick scheme and I'm willing to work hard for my money. However, they wanted £10 upfront. Would i be right in thinking it is a scam?

Does anyone know of any genuine work/type from home jobs or sites please?

    Thanks, and good luck everyone

Anything that asks for money up front is a scam...

If you have excellent audio typings skills try http://www.thetranscriptionagency.com/vacancies.html

Or try google for other similar companies

I'll try the site you listed and google for others.

    Thanks

  • You could also consider typing up product descriptions for online retailers - they may not wish to employ somebody full time to do this, but employ someone part time to get the descriptions or specifications eg for a new range of products online quickly.

I've no experience in trying this myself but know that my previous employer, an electrical retailer, used to occasionaly take people on to do this on a seasonal basis, supplying them with manufacturers brochures etc.

Not sure wether the best idea would be approach retailers directly or if there are agencies who parcel out this kind of work.. perhaps someone else here does?
