I am amazed that no one has suggested using a fabric softener that claims to smell of "mountain streams" or "spring meadows" or "camel's armpit" !

Just shows what a waste of (our) money all the stupid TV adverts are.

Bedding gets washed with Persil Bio liquid and normal Comfort conditioner. Always try and dry outside and bedding gets changed every friday.

Also airing your bed each morning (open windows and pull bedding back) helps keep that just washed feel and smell.

I am now using one ariel tablet, a blob of asda conditioner & washing soda and it smells lovely. I have a 6kg load so its not too uneconomical. When the conditioner runs out i thought i'd try vinegar but how do you add it & which sort do you use ? I dont want my pjs smelling like a chippy!

I thought the same as you but you will be amazed! Add malt vinegar to the same compartment you used for fabric conditioner. It smells fresh afterwards but definitely not of chips!

To those of you using soda crystals:

when do you put them in the machine? with the wash or rinse?

    what do they actually do?

I've use vinegar before but not soda crystals.

    Many thanks

I use it in a powder mix, See this thread Mixing washing soda with laundry powder??? for ideas. I thhink the soda boosts the effectiveness of the powder.

Have to say since I have been doing this and using a vinegar mix as a fabric softener my laundry has smelt wonderful, and drying outside is not an option for me. icon7.gif
My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead :D
