CashinmyPhone Warning!!!

Options
I sent a nokia N95 8gb to them in the secure packaging they sent me and tonight I received an email saying my phone has been water damaged. I used that phone happily and without problem until the morning I sent it to them. As it was sent in secure packaging and it was definately working when I packaged it I can only conclude that either a) they damaged it, or b) its not damaged and they're pretending it is to pay me less for it. I have requested they send the phone back to me rather than except their offer of £35 (which even for a broken N95 8gb is way below what other services offer). Although even if it isnt water damaged now I bet it will be by the time it reaches my house. I am so angry:mad:. Has anyone else had any bad experiences with this company, or envirophone, their parent company? What would you suggest I do? How can I prove the phone was working before I sent it? Any suggestions greatfully received!

  • I've never used them but Envirofone have always been good.
  • Again, not used Cashinmyphone but had nothing but good experiences with Money4URMobile.

CashinMyfone is Envirofone at the end of the day. Have used them many times without a problem. Also get additional cashback via Topcashback.

For the OP's original problem, you could try to claim for damage in the post but you will only get a max of £39 unless you sent it special delivery. The package may have been dropped in a puddle hence the water damage? I guess you could refuse the new offer and have the phone returned.
  • The same thing happened to me. I sent them an N95 valved at £87. IT's one year old in perfect condition. Got an email saying it was water damaged and are offering £60. it was impossible for the phone to get wet in transit as it was inside 3 diffeent air tight bags. Phone royal mail as it was sent special delivery at a cost of £6. They told me it was not insured for damage only for delivery. They do not provide insurance on mobile phones sent to these company's. So I excepted the £60 as god knows what condition the phone would have come back in.
  • Quick update

My phone was sent back to me, took three weeks, but seemed to still be working ok. So used mazuma, sent the phone to them and today received an email confirming they are sending £112 check for the properly working phone. Cashinmyphone seem to be a very dodgy setup.
  • I have just used them for my N95 8GB with no problems. Got 117.00 cheque very promptly through the post. The difference is that they are based in my home town so rather than use the prepaid envelope, I drove there and delivered it myself.
The email to say it had been received in good working order came the same afternoon. I was very pleased.

I read an article recently, most mobile phones have liquid contact indicators inside them (basically, special paper that changes colour when it comes into contact with water), this is so warranty claims can be refused when the phone has been water damaged. However, tests have shown these can be triggered even when the phone is being used within normal conditions as specified in the manual, and leads to a lot of false positives.

So the phone might not be getting rejected because it doesn't work, just because the LCI has been triggered.

I was just going to say exactly that. My cousin had a samsung phone which was basically cr*p. Googling revealed many people with the same issue.

A repair was denied based on "water damage". When looking at repairing a nokia I found a service manual indicating this "indicator" and it was tiny strip of paper which had turned pink.
