Cat has dirty paws (poo)

Options
hi all,

my kitten Poppy seems to have stepped in her poo and has a smelly paw now.

I don't want to clean it with something which will hurt her but i've tried a few times now and it still smells so must still be there.

What is the best solution/method to clean her with please?

thanks.

Do you have any pet wipes, they are very effective.
Failing that, a warm damp cloth, maybe with some pet shampoo on it then wiping again with a clean cloth?
I have used baby wipes on my dogs feet when pet ones have ran out, has never harmed them and gets rids of smells and yuck effectively.

I have no pet wipes, i'll have a look out for them tomorrow, I have ladies facial wipes which I used earlier but to not great affect.
  • Bit of warm water, tiny drop of baby soap/handwash/shampoo, big towel to enclose cat whilst washing paws. Hold cat, dip in sink of warm water, add soap, rub in, dip in sink to rinse. Dry quickly and release. Mop up water. Laugh at cat shaking it's paw with every third step.

They sort of get used to it in the end. The long haired ones do more quickly, as it happens more often. Wipes are usually better for shorthairs, especially when removing crusty bits from around the bottom (yuk!)

that sounds like it's going to be possible, dreading the rinse bit, and dry. it's especially annoying since I can't see exactly where the mess is!

this happens with my balinese all the time! he has really long fur between his toes. i fill the bath to about 1cm by the plug and so its still empty at the other end, squirt some baby wash onto the dry bit at the top, rub his feet into it, rub it in a bit, then rinse it in the water. they hate it but this is the way i've found to cause him the least distress. also the least faff in trying to get the stuff on his paws. any other way of rinsing him off seemed to leave him looking like a drowned rat!

all we do is hold him over the sink, dangle his foot under the tap and then let him run off. He hates having a wet foot and sits there and cleans it himself. Simples!
What matters most is how well you walk through the fire
  • Well, sometimes it's less of a rinse and dry than a dip-tickle-between-the-toes and watch as cat launches off into a squelchy distance...

  • Any luck with this?

I agree I think that a little bit of warm soapy water on a tea towel or something would work wonders.

Your Cat seems much better behaved than mine, there is no way my cat would go near water  lol
    :j I can't do it all on my own, I'm no Superman!:j

Yes had a bit of luck last night, well, in a fashion.

She'd stepped in some diarreoah and it was all over her back left paw, my mrs managed to hold her and I dunked her foot in some water with hand wash in it. Came off a treat!

Yes my cat is very well behaved, she's quite strange actually in that she looks me right in the eye and meows while i'm cleaning her! we're trying to do all this with her while she's still a kitten so hopefully she's not too bad with it in future.

We had to do this with our kitten when he was younger as kept stepping in his poo..eww! a wet wipe and towel or a flannel and kitchen roll to blot dry..he wasn't keen but hey i'm not keen on poo on my carpets!!

This morning he came bounding in from the rain, me and my friend were sat having a cuppa..he ran across the laminate with muddy paws and onto the cream carpet in the hall..my friends face was a picture and she almost spat her tea all over me as there were numerous perfect brown pad marks!..we both laughed as ive just had one of those weeks..i grabbed him and took him to the sink to be cleaned and he is so funny..walks along shaking his feet!..again wet wipes for the floor also does wonders!
