Question About Higher Gas Bill

Hi There,
I have a question I hope someone might be able to help with relating to my gas.
I have been with Scottish Gas for four years and get billed quarterly. The bills are usually about £13-£20 depending on the time of year - I live by myself and don't use much as you can see!
I have given them several readings over the time I have been with them, usually about two a year.
Anyway I suddenly got a bill covering two/three summer months for £55. I called them about this and they said it was higher because the previous bills had been estimates.
But I have provided regular estimates since I was with them and have never been hit with something like this. I know for certain I hadn't used any more gas than usual.
I'm not sure what to do, because I am sure there is something fishy about the whole thing. I know it's not much to most people but as I am on a very tight income I am really struggling to pay this.
Does anyone have any suggestions where I could take this?
Thank you,
Kate

The previous bills should specify whether the readings used were actual, estimated (or sometimes customer).
It is your responsibility to check them and advise immediately of any anomoly."Now to trolling as a concept. ....
