Wife - Job

Options
Does anybody have any experience in courier work - ie - delivering, collecting clothes for next and other catalogues, etc. My wife currently works 2 days a week and look after our 2 year old daughter for the rest of the week and would like to earn some extra cash. We have heard stories of people doing this type of work as it is suitable with a child in the car. Another alternative is to deliver school dinners (1 hour a day) which can generate £75 a week!!!

Has anybody been involved with any of these or have any knowledge - ie - who we should contact etc - is it worthwhile?? Or do you have any alternative suggestions aside from avon or kleeneze!!!

Many thanks

I would disagree that courier work is suitable to do with a child in the car! Each to their own, but the difficulties of extracting a pre-school child and the goods to be delivered from a vehicle and getting them up to a house or business seem to me to be fraught with difficulties. I would hate to think of a young child left in a car while deliveries were made.

Finding paid childcare for such short periods as school dinner delivery could be difficult, but does your wife have any friends in a similar situation? I used to leave my eldest with a friend while I worked one afternoon a week, and then return the favour later in the week.

Kleeneze and Avon etc have been discussed in a few other places so it's worth doing a search: they suit some people but not others, so worth looking for one with low or no initial outlay to give it a whirl first.

i did this many years ago, im not sure what the money is like now, but at the time it was 40p per deleivered item 70p for a large item and 25p for collections, it wasn't easy tho has the houses were all over the place and not really sure if after taking money out of earnings for petrol etc it was really worth it, also ya have to register as self employed as all the details are sent to inland revenue and arrange for insurance to cover goods whilst in your home / car, something i found quite difficult to get ??? so id give it alot of consideration before ya take it on, i also struggled to get round with all the parcels mon-fri and had to work weekends too :(

i wouldnt recommend doing it with kiddy in car tho, as ya cant always park in a drive or somewhere safe and ya cant keep getting little un out of the car each time.

it might be an idea to look at other areas as suggested kleeneze, betterware, avon, and the money is better and ya can work ya own hours to suit ya self and around the family.

    HTH and good luck ;D

I personally wouldn't do it, but all the couriers we have had for catalogue deliveries/returns etc have had pre-school kidz or babies in the car.

Two people i know used to do a similar thing delivering newspapers to shops with their children in the car.

One woman stopped after she accidentally locked her child in car and couldn't get her out - police were called and she was prosecuted for not having adequate insurance.

The other didn't run into such problems and only packed in when the contract finished. She found it brought other problems though - she had to delay her sons potty training cos each afternoon he was out with her in the car.

Could your wife work when you are home? I used to have an evening job in a DIY store Mon-Fri 5pm to 8pm that fitted in with our lives when we only had one.

I couriered for Freemans as 'relief' for 2 weeks. Had applied via a newspaper ad about 9 mths before and they'd kept my details on file. I only got paid IF I got signature, or unless had pre-instructions from customer to leave package in secure place, garage, shed etc. So sometimes having to go back twice to delivery package and obtain signature and just for .40p! Also found that most people out during day and want packages re-delivered after 6pm - not ideal time when wanting to get children bathed and ready for bed, or at weekends. Did take a 3 year old with me, lucky to live semi-rural and was able to deliver all packages when could still see child. If had to put in shed child came round back of houses with me. Long hours tho' and I would say it'll be a 7 day a week job. If you're seriously considering it, I would suggest contacting Next, Freemans and other
catalogue comps as they must have application forms for you to complete.

They did ask me if I wanted to do relief work again, or be considered if any full time rounds became available, but I had had enough after 2 weeks. Paid about £200 all told for the 2 weeks, but god knows how much petrol I used!!

Good luck if you decide to go for it.
