Marks and Spencers iced fruit cakes are very good and you could always add some decorations.

I seem to remember that I just wrote my daughter's name on her First Holy Communion cake and added a bunch of white artificial flowers left over from her headress.

local cake decorating craft shops sell decorations you can just plonk on top of a plain white iced cake. I got a sugarpaste cross and some white sugarpaste roses for DD's first communion

Alternatively, try making a lemon flavoured spnge caks and ice it with thick white glace icing (that's just icing sugar mixed with water). You can get miniature vases for the top of wedding cakes from the same sort of shop and it looks lovely with some fresh flowers
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

Well here it is. :T:j About 10 hours of hard labour later I finally finished it! :D

It's the first *proper* cake I've ever made and probably the last. The silver stuff for the chalice was the work of the devil and ended up making the cake look dirty so I DON'T recommend anyone ever using lustre dust.

I'm quite please with the overall look and quite proud of myself for doing it but it would have been much easier to just go to Costco ;)

Edit...I forgot to add it tastes gorgeous so thanks for recommending the Delia recipe!

Wow, fabulous cake, and to think you said you don't cook:T It looks wonderful just like a shops own one, and so personal to you and your family. Well done you.:j

I must say, i am going to be lazy and go for a costco cake for my sons 2nd birthday. Have seen them before, thought they were good value, but never tryed one. However in view of the positive comments above, think it will be worth a trip down!

Thanks, glad you all like it! It doesn't look how I wanted it to but I'm pleased with it. As for her wedding cake....ahem :naughty:.

Costco cakes are fab, it was my daughter's birthday last week and she had one. The only problem is you can feel quite sick when you've eaten half of one _pale_

    :D It's lovely, well done!

    (p.s..... mmmmmm Costco cakes  :D )
Just run, run and keep on running!

  • Your cake is FANTASTIC!1 I am so in awe!! I was all set to make mine but it turned out a bit iffy and then ex DH (DD's Father) turned up with a monstrosity for which he had paid £150 (£149 more than I've ever had in alimony but don't start me....) - it was totally OTT - needless to say it was the talk of the day but honestly, and this is not sour grapes, it was just the same as a costco sponge inside - I don't like costco sponges as I think the buttercream stuff is too sweet and artifical tasting and that is what this was like underneath the swanky outside!!!
