defaulted on student loan cant get funding for course fees

hi through having to mve many time domestic violence refuges etc etc i ended up defaulting on a student loan for studies at uni... didnt complete studies but ended up owing 3000+ in loans which cos slc couldnt find me as such ended up defaulting ...had other ppl to hide from slc last ppl on my mind!!
anyway now doing open univeristy course but cant get funding to cover course fees as defaulted in past unless i can pay outstanding 3000 + cant do this..cant continute with studies will not accept payment plan has to be paid in full
am on benefits and now classes as disabled but really want to finish degree just to show mainly him that he hasnt spoilt everything
have dependant kids on income support and high rate mobility middle rate care dls
please help really want to do this
no savings maxed out overdraft cc etc

I think you need some more specialist advice than anything people could say on here. Try contacting the nearest Citizens Advice Bureau, who will be able to tell you the best way forward without charging you.

And I do suggest you explain everything to the Open University. You will need to try hard to get hold of the appropriate person (whoever administers the funding scheme) but as an institution they have a really strong belief in making education available to people in situations like yours. OK, the rule about not supporting people who have defaulted on student loans is there for a good reason, but they are certainly capable of appreciating that you are in an exceptional situation and finding some way to help you.

Agreed. The SLC and OU are the ppl to tlk to. I doubt you will be the 1st person to have ever come across this situation. they will be able to give you help and advice. try there.Come to my garden in South Bucks and i'll find you a wasp...0
