cyprus to uk phone calls home?

Hello, my daughters first post is 6/9 months in cyprus.
Can any one tell me the cheapest way for he to ring home and speak to her mum on a regular nightly basis, any info would be greatly received, the phone she has is open to all networks, thank you

Does she have internet access? VoIP will be the cheapest option (sipgate.co.uk is 1p/min to UK landlines).

SKYPE is free from skype to skype (done on the computer with a microphone and/or webcam) and you can buy credit to ring landlines at I think 1.5p a minute.

The mobile phone calls are reasonable too but Skype is much much cheaper.

Failing that, get a Cyta Mobile PAYG SIM whilst out there. A friend of mine has one and pays about 3p/minute to UK and texts to the UK are free

Skype - If you pay 12 months up front it works out at about £8.50 a month which gives unlimited free calls to anywhere. There may be cheaper packages if you just want to ring one country. It is linked to the computer, but you can buy a normal wireless phone to use alongside it so that you don't have to be connected to the computer with a headset. Also for about £40 ish a year you can buy a UK skype phone number which would allow anyone in the UK to ring you for the cost of a UK to UK call (calls from UK to Cyprus are very expensive) - or free if the person calling has free UK calls as part of their package.

Cyta pay as you go mobile is fine as already mentioned - cheap for sending texts. We were advised to bring an unlocked phone with us - but as Cyta is a Vodafone company it turned out that my Vodafone contract phone worked fine with a Cyta sim card.

Where on the island will she be going? Warn her that the cost of everyday stuff is high here, most things are about double UK prices - if she can send out or bring a stock of stuff with her - things like haircare products and suncream (€12 for a small bottle) she will save herself a small fortune!

I'm moving out with partner who has just got a job wiht SBA customs on RAF Akritiri. I will be with out job for a little while so any info on Cyprus and money would be greatly received.

Silly things for me like TV, Internet cost of other things would be great to know.

Some of my family have a villa there and they bought a mobile in cyprus for calling home to the UK and it gets left in the villa .Cost is very low I think its maybe what the poster abovwe suggested. Not sure how much the inital outlay would be but I'd definatly look into it.

have a look at the Akrotiri hive and links via this page. That should help. If married you will get married quaters on the base if not a hiring. I think hirings still get BFBS TV but the Hive will tell you.
