Re-Mounting Electic Meter Board

Our electric meter on its mounting board is attached to the inside of our wooden porch. We are having the porch replaced by a double glazing company in just over a week, so the meter board will need to be unscrewed from the old porch wall and re-mounted on the new porch wall.
Do we have to get the electric distribution company involved?
They only seem interested if it was being moved to a different location. They suggested it would be cheaper if I phone my billing company and ask them to turn off the "master switch" while the work is done. Sounds a bit strange.
