Hi
I wonder if someone can advise me please.
I need to remove some gloss paint and repaint it with matt.
What's the best way, ie cheapest/quickest/easiest, to remove the gloss please?
Thanks.

The cheapest, quickest and easiest way to replace a gloss finish with a matt one is to simply paint over it (best to give it a bit of a rub down with some sandpaper to take out any imperfections and also give it something to grip on).
If you are really set on removing the gloss paint then the method depends on a number of issues.
Firstly how old is the paint - older paints (someone will help me with rough dates but certainly pre 1960's) can contain lead which means removing it can liberate the lead. If your house was only built in the 1970's its unlikely to be a problem.
Secondly how much of it is there - you are going to spend a lot on chemicals stripping ten doors so buying a hot air stripper is probably more worthwhile - if its just a small item then chemical strippers can be more effective. Hot air guns have to be used carefully to avoid scorching the wood. I've not used chemical products recently so wouldn't know what to recommend.
Hopefully that gives you a start!Adventure before Dementia!0 -
agree with WestonDave, just give a good rub down and paint over the top.it might help to wash down with 'sugar soap' as wellI

i agree. the cheapest way is just to rub it down with sandpaper, and then repaint it.
or i would use my heat gun to remove the old paint.
chemical stripper is the very last option. esp indoors.Get some gorm.0 -

Key it with fine glasspaper and then use matt emulsion. Putting paint stripper on a (plastered?) wall is a crazy idea.
Or are you talking about an outside rendered wall?No free lunch, and no free laptop0
