Weekend in Bath

We stayed at Express by Holiday Inn, excellent position. Look at the thread on the overseas holiday board for the cheapest way to book. We used the two nights for one and paid a ridiculous price of £60.00 for the weekend. No Matter what you do there will be critics.0

Thanks I tried that but it said the requested rate was not available.

I work in the centre of Bath and wondered if you have tried the Travelodge (waterside near the train station)? It was a 4 star hotel before it became a travelodge. I have heard of some great offers and if price is a limiting factor you may want to consider it.0

Thanks, I actually just booked it before you said that! Found a £15 off code and got a good deal. :j
Big thanks to everyone who posted.
Since you work in Bath what do you recommend as the best way to spend the day on a budget?
I have booked a table at Yak Yeti Yak in the evening.

Bath and Budget rarely go together, but...
There are free walking tours run by the Mayors guides, which are very interesting. From memory, there are a couple per day, departing from outside the pump rooms, near the Abbey. Much better than a bus if it's not raining too much.
Yak Yeti Yak is ok, but last time I went there is wasn't as good as previous visits. Other good places to eat on a budget are the Jazz Cafe in Kingsmead Square, The hole in the wall (pre-theatre menu) and even HaHa bar on Walcot Street with 2for1 vouchers etc.
Victoria art gallery is worth a visit, as are Prior Park gardens if you are NT members. If you get bored of the city and the weather is good, walk down the canal to Bathampton - The George is really nice on a sunny winter's day.0 -
oh, also forgot to mention that although you'll miss the main Christmas Market by the Abbey, there is another one on in Green Park station (well, used to be a station, now a nice large covered area) that weekend.
And if you're into real ales and characterful pubs, you could have a great evening touring the Salamander, Old Green Tree, The Raven (great pies and mash there too). I recommend Gem from Bath ales - lovely!0 -
Thanks mac2009 thats excatly what I was looking for!
A bit gutted to hear that we were going to miss the christmas fair but it's great to hear that another is on. I booked Yak Yeti Yak because I spent a few years living in Nepal and my girlfriend was interested in trying the food. I have eaten there before and enjoyed it.
I only like to drink real ale or cider so we definitely be dropping in for a few and maybe some lunch to.
Is there anything we should definitely avoid?
Would anyone know if there is a lockup for bags at the train station?

There is no left luggage facility at the station, but it's only 5 minutes walk to the hotel.
I personally wouldn't bother with the Roman Baths unless you have a particular interest. Same with the Assembly Rooms and museum of costume. They're ok, but not that cheap and usually mobbed with tourists. The Abbey is impressive though and I believe it only has a 'suggested donation' ;-)0 -

Just been checking these pubs out online as we're in Bath for the day on 5th December. From what I can work out on the maps, the Salamander and Raven are close together. How long do you reckon a walk from the abbey is to these pubs? We're going bonkers and joining the masses at the Xmas market but love pubs like these!0 -
oh, about 5 minutes. The Old Green tree is only a few minutes from them too, in Green St. Couer de Lion is also well worth a visit as Bath's smallest pub - again only a couple of minutes away.0
