Kitchen corner "void"

I'm measuring up for my kitchen refit and considering leaving a floor-level corner as "void" instead of going for a magic corner type thing. Are there any disadvantages in this apart from potential waste of space ? I'm going to have sufficient units for our needs, I just wondered if leaving a void makes any difference. ?

As you have said the only real disadvantage is having to get on your knees and stick your head in the cupboard to see what is in there.

We install magic corners in nearly all our developments, i think they are great personaly

youll have sufficient units for what your present needs are
what about in a few years time, if you want/need more cupboard space?

youve already got to fit a cupboard front, whats the point in not fitting a cupboard that still only needs the 1 front, but gives you double the storage space?

Perhaps I shouldn't be so short-sighted, I'm only considering our immediate needs but if we come to sell , people may expect optimum use of space. You seem to understand kitchens, so may I ask you if I should go ahead and buy an extractor hood that I like the spec of before choosing a kitchen or speaking to an electrician about the suitability ? I have a habit of doing things backwards and then regretting it.

Like others have said ... I think you might as well put in a corner unit with access to the corner. You don't have to use the space right in the corner, if you don't need it ... and you don't have to use magic corner type baskets (they're not cheap).

I have occasionally put a void corner into kitchens ... where I've wanted to put - say - a set of drawers and a dishwasher either side of the corner (and didn't need the storage space) ... but it's very rare.

If you're really keen on a cooker hood, then the kitchen can always be designed around it ... but personally, I'd wait until you've finalised the choice of kitchen units first. You might change your mind about the style you want. ;)
I write blogs about kitchens ... and I design kitchens for a living ... I just love kitchens!
