Car Colour On Log Book is Different

We recently bought a car about 7 years old from a car garage and we receive the new log book on sat. The car is a ford focus navy blue colour yet the log book says its grey...we are a bit worried if this is normal or should we do something about it.

I am also thinking maybe it was involved in an accident and repainted but I have not really seen any grey ford focuses?

what colour is it under the bonnet?
that should give you a clue to its 'real' colour
then check the VIN number on logbook against the one on the car

  • Could just be a clerical error on the DVLA's behalf. They only deal in basic colours, so sometimes silver can be logged as grey etc. Ask the DVLa to dig out the original V55/5 when the car was new to see what colour it was registered as.

Ford used to do a Midnight Grey colour. Today they do a Sea Grey.

Though to be honest, any colour from black to silver (and some possible blue or green shades) could be recorded as grey by DLVA

  • Is there a paint code on a plate or stamped anywhere, sometimes under the bonnet. Your handbook should indicate where it is.
Then have a search online for Ford paint codes which should confirm if the colour is correct.
BMC used to have a smoke grey colour but it was actually a light blue. Manufacturers and the DVLA use some obscure paint descriptions but dark blue is miles from any form of grey to my mind.

It should be a field on part of the VIN plate.

Or just go to a Ford (parts) dealer who should be able to confirm the original colour from the registration plate (assuming it wasn't an import)

Wouldnt worry about it too much.

It might be 'steel' but i cant be sure. Ford went through there silver period in the mid to late 90s and followed it up with variants of every silver and grey colour you can imagine and then also named loads of cars as grey derivatives that wernt really grey.

There are loads of grey focuses - its one of the most popular colours - do a search for magnum grey.

I think the colour you may be looking for could be steel (this was a grey looking blue or a blue looking grey etc). I think it was mainly a Puma colour but I recall it being on some focus that year as well.

Best bet would be try the enthusiasts sites - they will answer your question quickly and with great enthusiasm.

If not as said previously paintcode or even VIN code should be able to get it.

  • Thank you for your responses, feeling a bit settled now.

I couldnt check the bonnet as it was dark when I read the messages here but I will do so in the morning.

To be honest I am feeling alright about it now, seriously i thought we had been duped:j

Here we go, look what I've just found! :j

Put your Ford vehicle registration number or VIN here, and discover the original spec.
No need to even go to your Ford dealer now.
