Halifax card care

I recently applied for a Halifax credit card (12 months 0% on purchases for existing customers). When I applied online I was very careful to untick PPI etc.
Rather than wait for the application in the (delayed) post, I went into branch today and they printed it all off for me. "Card care" at £18 for a year is on the agreement. The assistant thinks she has cancelled it but isn't sure - phoning the telephone number just gets someone who tells me to check when the card arrives and I activate it. I don't want this extra insurance!
Anyone else had a similar experience and how do you guarantee that it is cancelled?
thanks,
