AA RAC or cheaper option?

Well, my advise would be to go to AA or RAC.
Car wouldn't start on Thursday. Had a few glitches with it before but always ended up starting.
Hubs didn't want to pay AA premium so ended up using Vehicle rescue network.
They allocated a local garage who sent out a mechanic. Now, it may be because I am a woman but I was told it was fuel related and he wacked £10 of fuel in car. Got car to start. Was told not to worry about warning brake light that had flashed on, all part and parcel of the fuel. His recomendation was to beat hubby around the head with a stick for running low on fuel. (It had just hit reserve so was adequate amount to get to local fuel station)
On leaving he said he was onto the next breakdown which happened to be someone he had worked with, didn't like so would put him to the bottom of the list.
Come today, car won't start. Local garage (people who came Thursday) not interested. Vehicle Network people feel garage fixed problem and not interested either. £70 down the drain. The local garage had no diagnostic equipment at all. Did nothing except insult my husband.
So, now have to call another garage out to take car away and fix. No, it isn't fuel as there is plenty in the tank. VHN attitude? Must be another fault.
Moral of the story. Sometimes it pays to have the best.

Use Autoaid - £37 per year all in ... and you can even arrange who you want to rescue or recover you.
To be fair, you asked for breakdown assistence - that's what you got - they got you back on the road again. The fact the car has broken down again 4 days later isn't really the responsibilty of the initial breakdown mechanic.
Perhaps get your car to the local garage and pay for it to be thoroughly inspected & maintained
