Alternative to buying ipod as external hard drive?

I'm a bit of a technophobe, I have an Apple G4 and need an external hard drive to use for backing up. I'd also like to store all my music somewhere and free up some space on my laptop.
I was very tempted to buy a 60gb ipod to do that but I can't justify the expense. Please can you tell me what the cheaper options might be?
Thanks

oops, answered your question >here<
basically suggested you take advantage of ebuyers offer on their seagate externall HDD, thoroughly good value for money and much better sense than an iPod
