Next sofa. Am I entitled to a refund?

Hi all.
I was bought a next sofa bed as a wedding gift. It was ordered in April this year for my new house. It cost £999.
The idea was that we would purchase another sofa to match once we could afford it.
The sofa was delivered in July and and we went to purchase a new one in September. When I went in to next I was told that the sofa fabric had been discontinued and that I wouldn't be able to purchase another one.
I was then told that they'd check the warehouse for any exdisplay ones to match. The sales assistant also told me that they may be bringing the fabric back to production and to check in store frequently. I heard nothing back though.
I'm now stuck with a small sofa in a big room which matches with nothing.
Am I entitled to a refund and how would I go about claiming one?
Any advice HUGELY appreciated.

No - you're not!
Going by your theory, anyone that bought a dinner service (or received one as a wedding gift) and it's now out of production could claim for a refund if they need to replace a cup etc. Unfortunately for you that's not the case. Keep your fingers x'd that they will reintroduce it in the future.0 -
No of course your not entitled to a refund. Why on earth would you be!
Try and buy a 2nd hand one, sell yours, use it in a different room or live with non matching one.0 -
They discontinued the sofa a week after I ordered it. Surely I should have been informed?0

oh dear oh dear oh dear
this one actually made me chuckle
sorry op but thats the most ridiculous question ive seen on here for a long time.
have you no common sense?

why on earth should you?
by that logice, every product you ever buy, the manufacturers should tell you when its being discontinued for the purpose of obtaining parts...:rolleyes:Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -
Agree with ceebeeby. I'm surprised you even thought that this might be a possibility tbh. I'm a firm believer in 'if you don't try, you don't get' but you do have to keep a sense of reality whilst doing so.
Suggestions on how to deal with the situation now.....
Sell the sofa and start again (costly and wasteful)
Buy a new sofa and ask if you can buy some of the same fabric of the new one, to recover the old one.
Buy a plain, neutral fabric and get it recovered so that it will go with anything.
Use the sofa in another room if you have the space and buy something else.
I can understand your frustration and annoyance but I really dont see how the company are responsible or owe you anything in any way.Herman - MP for all!0 -
£1000 for a sofa is a lot of money and It can't be assumed that everyone can afford to buy both at once.
I felt it was quite a reasonable question.0 -

I felt it was quite a reasonable question.
I think most people who intended buying a matching item at a later date would ask at the time of purchase, how long the product or design would be available for. I would. I wouldn't take the chance of falling foul of the very situation you find yourself in now.
Nope, sorry.....it wasn't.
Learning curve.Herman - MP for all!0 -

I wasn't looking to get into an argument about it, I just wanted some reasonable advice.0
