Blocked Loo?

Hope you can help....
....my toilet seems to be backing up with water after i flush. I have tried putting a wire coat hanger 'round the bend' and as far as i can tell it's not blocked.
Does anyone know of anyother tips?
Looked in supermarket today for a 'drain unblocker' but not of the bottles say it can be used down the loo.
Thanks in advance

Hi,
The first thing to do is look under the manhole cover by your soil pipe and make sure that is clear. If it is try a bucketfull of very hot/boiling water down the loo - this usually clears most things. if your manhole is backed up you need to clear the pipes with rods - a yukky job you may want to delegate!

A Plumber showed me this tip. Wrap a towel around your fist then put a carrier bag over the top of that secured with an elastic band. Then literally thump/punch the toilet. Inside down the hole of course. Keep punching down the hole and it should clear any blockage.LBM 10/08 £12510.74/0

Ok, get yourself an old towel, one that you can throw away after, a handtowel would be best, shove it down the loo, so you are creating a kind of vacume, and shove the towel up and down with force, you may have to do this several times, if there is a blockage in the loo this shound clear it.
Worked for me, not a nice job, but it has to be done
good luck x

Will second look under the drain cover. Ours gets blocked occasionly and the men neighbours get together with rods to unblock. Not a nice job but better than paying out . Is the sink not going down too? We are very lucky as the end house on the drain system all the other houses have the problem first and have to ask us if they can lift the drain cover as it is on our drive.
My other sugestions are try a plunger?
soda crystals?
bicarb? If winter comes, can spring be far behind?

There is a possibility of cracked drain too. Does the toilet fill up after every flush or after a few flushes?0

Thanks for all the responses - your all fab on this forum!
The rest of the water in the house is fine and there does not seem to be any other blockages just this one.
The toilet fills up (over fills) after every flush and has only started doing it in the last day or two.Sealed Pot Challenge #6010 -

I had to do that a couple of times, but I used a large toilet brush instead. It works a treat.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -

if only the toilet & nothing else is affected then the blockage must be on the toilet itself. I use a loo brush as a plunger & this has always cleared it so far. Where is the loo is it ground floor or 1st floor?I THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I KnowSupermarket Rebel No 19:T0 -
My Mum tought me this trick, cut the top of a 2litre pop bottle, put it down the toilet (cut end first) and pump it driving water down into the pipes - always works for me and I do it often thanks to my 6 year olds toilet roll obsession!Best Threads -
